Back-to-School Safety Reminder for HAWK Crosswalks

Posted Date: 08/12/26 (01:25 PM)

As we begin a new school year, please remember to stay alert around our schools and follow all HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) signals.  HAWK crosswalks help students and families cross busy streets safely by stopping traffic when pedestrians activate the signal.

Drivers should slow down, watch for pedestrians, and stop when the HAWK signal displays red.  With more students walking and biking to school, a few extra seconds of attention can make a big difference.

If you use a HAWK crosswalk, press the button and wait for the WALK signal before crossing—even if traffic looks clear.

Before stepping into the street, stop, look both ways, and make sure drivers have stopped.  Keep your head up, put your phone away, and stay aware of traffic as you cross.

Be seen.  Be alert.  Cross safely.  Let’s have a safe school year!

As we begin the new school year, please be aware of the new traffic signal on Geer Avenue and remember to slow down, stay alert, and follow all posted signals to help keep our students and community safe.

Thank you for helping keep our students, families, and community safe this school year!
